G418 - Geneticin

G418 is a compound that blocks polypeptide synthesis inhibiting the elongation step in pro- and eukaryotic cells.
We use the dominant genetic resistance marker kanMX6 to generate resistant strains.


Use the stock solution (fridge 1) at 1 in 500 dilution (i.e. 50 μl/9cm plate or 20 μl/4.5cm plate).


Note that the function of G418 is blocked in EMM due to the interaction with the ammonium chloride. Should work on PMG where ammonium is replaced with glutamate
Don't forget to cool your agar to below 60°C to avoid break down of the molecule.
